Tips for women who want silicone breast forms

The number of breast plastic surgeries has been increasing since 2006, after it was declared by FDA that its usage is safe. However, before one opts for silicone breast forms, it is important to know all about it. With the advancement in technology, elastomer-coated shells were introduced that were used to reduce gel bleed. This was a result of the use of cohesive and thick gel. Although such implants for big breast forms had become very popular in other countries, they were available in Canada and the US under restrictions.

Breast forms can be enhanced using two kinds of implants, silicone breast implants and saline filled implants. Silicone breast forms look natural and are achieved by filling up the breasts with a special gel. Over 1.5 million women in America have silicone breast forms currently. Now, women do not need to think about the usage of silicone breast forms because its safety has already been approved by the FDA (Food Drug Administration). However, things were different about two decades ago. The safety of silicone breast implants was questioned. It was rumored that silicone breast forms lead to autoimmune diseases or even hardening of breasts.

Till FDA had approved of silicone breast forms in 2006, silicone was only supposed to be used on women who were involved in long term medical studies. Women who had autoimmune disease, Lupus or Scleroderma were not allowed to part of such studies. Only women who had problems from saline filled implants, women with asymmetrical breasts and women who would need breast reconstruction were eligible for such studies. Silicone implant manufacturers were told to give evidences of the safety of this kind of implants. Due to lack of available data, FDA was compelled to conclude that silicone breast forms were not safe and should not be used for breast augmentation. After proper evaluation of the studies conducted by FDA, it was declared in 2006 that silicone breast forms had no potential danger.

Now any woman wanting big breast forms chooses silicone implants over saline filled implants. One should always ensure that she is in good health before she undergoes such a plastic surgery. The optimum time to have silicone breast forms starts from 18 and ends at 50. It does not necessarily mean that women above the age of 50 cannot get silicone breast forms. After the age of 50, there is higher risk for complications and the success rate of the surgery reduces. Teen breast enhancement also involves certain risks which should be discussed in detail with the doctor prior to the surgery.

Silicone breast forms help in boosting one’s self esteem. However, they are not permanent. One might have to repair or remove the implants after sometime. The larger the size of the breasts, the greater are its chances of sagging owing to the increased effect of the force of gravity. With age and pregnancy, the breast forms might have to be adjusted. Silicone implants can give one a variety of shapes and sizes. This has to be discussed with the surgeon before the surgery to prevent consecutive corrective surgeries.
